PROGRAM

PROJECT SPACES

Geraldine Javier’s investigations into the wonders of the natural world inevitably relate to issues on growing environmental concerns. For A LT 2024 she presents "Catch of the Day", a pool-like installation filled with countless finely cut plastic pieces that were collected with members of her local community, from various water refilling stations.

"Seascape (Blue Hour I & II)" will also be on view. These paintings connect her ongoing garden archiving with the global threat of marine debris, suggesting that all ecosystems and species are ultimately linked.

For the occasion of A LT 2024, Jimenez turns to a more mundane, seemingly nondescript material, large cement sacks that are repurposed by junkyards to collect objects of various materials. Taking off from a passage from the Bible, in the Book of Matthew, the installation of more than thirty giant cement sacks will be intuitively and spontaneously arranged in an installation titled "A City Set on a Hill Cannot be Hidden".

When they are lit from inside, these sacks are completely transformed from an unremarkable discard into beacons that emit an impressive power, an otherworldly illumination from the most unexpected of objects. Like lanterns in a procession.

For the latest A LT  edition, Alcazaren will be presenting a large-scale, wall-bound work, entitled "NOW"  which continues his explorations on utilizing found objects, domestic ware, and daily artefacts. He arranges these objects–most of which are an assortment of black, gray, and opaque miscellany–a monochromatic collection of things appearing as shadows--to form a kind of constellation while they are lit against the wall. In full view, the word (NOW) is spelled.

Spanning a massive seven metres in diameter, Oca Villamiel renders an installation simply, but aptly titled "Water is Life". Drawing from personal observations of how some people treat local bodies of water, he ponders how it translates into everyday decisions and actions. East of Manila, in Atimonan, Quezon (and sadly in many more places), the practice of poisoning rivers (paglason sa ilog) for a faster and bigger yield of fish and shrimp to be sold is still more prevalent than one would hope, harming the water that eventually flows down from the mountain to the seas.

"Water is life" , countless strips of silver foil reflect our countless lives — they shift and dance, affected by our decisions. Light tiptoes on the surface, akin to that on water as it undulates. As we move, it moves.

Our small gestures create airflow that makes the slivers shift and shine. From a tiny stream to the vast oceans, the artist asks: what is right, what is wrong?

COLLABORATION

In a special collaboration with six contemporary artists, cult retail concept UNIVERS will be auctioning one-off Moreau Paris bags at A LT 2024. Throughout history, art and fashion have often intertwined. This symbiotic relationship has likewise always been a part of the UNIVERS ethos: from displaying art objects and mounting immersive installations in their stores to commissioning local artists or supporting art fair initiatives.

For the 3rd edition of A LT  Philippines, UNIVERS comes on board with custom pieces that uniquely bridge art and fashion. Six multi-disciplinary artists were invited to transform Moreau Paris’ Saint Tropez totes. The artists, specially selected by the A LT gallerists for their progressive, innovative and socially relevant body of works, are Costantino Zicarelli, Jigger Cruz, Johanna Helmuth, Luis Antonio Santos, Raffy T. Napay, and Yeo Kaa. Through various treatments that include painting, sewing, printing, and laser etching, the bags will elevate from commercial luxury goods to rare and collectible functional art.
